The demand for freelance work which began with the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, continues to grow despite the fears of a global economic slowdown. The world of global digital commerce and small businesses is accelerating the demand for freelancers in India as well. The recent shifts in perception and work culture are further pushing the demand for freelancers.
A recent survey by Payoneer on freelancers has reported that 68% of Indian respondents rely on social media as a primary source for getting new work. When compared to other countries, India’s freelancers make more use of social media platforms such as LinkedIn (Facebook and Instagram are the other most popular social media platforms)
The fifth edition of the Payoneer Freelancer Insights survey report, covered over 2,000 freelancers in 122 countries.
The report said that freelancers start young in India, with 40% under the age of 25 and another 39% under 35. As per the report, the Survey respondents in India were younger than the respondents in the rest of Asia and the rest of the world. It further stated that the freelancers in India had a wide range of expertise including Web and graphic design, IT, content writing, multimedia production, translation, programming and marketing.
According to the report, two-thirds of the respondents in India expected that demand would continue to grow, and more than half of these respondents expected their business to grow substantially (more than 50% year on year).
