Union Minister of Commerce Piyush Goyal is scheduled to travel to Ottawa, Canada for the sixth India-Canada Ministerial Dialogue on Trade and Investment (MDTI). The minister is expected to discuss key issues pertaining to trade with his Canadian counterpart, Mary Ng.
India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal and his Canadian counterpart Mary Ng, Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development are expected to co-chair the discussions for the 6th India-Canada Ministerial Dialogue on Trade and Investment (MDTI) in Ottawa today.
The dialogue will cover topics such as strengthening the India-Canada trade relationship, promoting investment and cooperation, and a green transition, including discussing critical minerals and exploring new areas of cooperation such as promoting B2B engagement.
The Ministers will also conduct a review of the negotiations for the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), the Ministers launched the CEPA negotiations in March 2022, with the potential for an interim agreement or Early Progress Trade Agreement (EPTA). Since then, seven rounds of negotiations have taken place.
From May 9th to 10th, 2023, the minister will visit Toronto to participate in several events to promote trade and investment between India and Canada. This will involve meetings with influential Canadian CEOs, round table discussions, and interactions with Indian and Canadian companies established in Canada.
During this visit, the Minister will launch the Indian Pavilion at SIAL CANADA-2023, which is the largest food innovation trade show in North America. Over 1000 exhibitors from 50 countries will participate, catering to the needs of the food processing, retail, and food service industries. Indian participation includes delegates from the Trade Promotion Council of India (TPCI), APEDA, ITPO, and ASSOCHAM.
