The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) organized a two-day workshop in New Delhi with British counterparts to advance the standardisation of green hydrogen production and regulations. Conducted in collaboration with the British Standards Institution (BSI) and the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), the initiative represents a key step in aligning global standards for the evolving hydrogen economy, according to an official statement.

“India and the UK have a shared ambition to become leaders in green hydrogen, supporting the goal of a net zero future,” stated Abbey Dorian, Energy Sector Lead at BSI, emphasizing the workshop’s role in fostering international cooperation for clean energy transitions.

The workshop was part of the UK’s broader Standards Partnership programme, designed to accelerate growth and enhance trade by encouraging the adoption of international standards in India. Discussions primarily focused on ensuring safe, scalable, and globally harmonized Regulations, Codes, and Standards (RCS). Special attention was given to fast-track PAS (Publicly Available Specification) standards and global hydrogen certification.

Aligned with India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission, the initiative aimed to identify standardisation gaps and facilitate expert collaborations. The knowledge exchange is expected to strengthen India’s frameworks for certification, testing, and standardisation, essential for building a competitive green hydrogen sector.

Rajiv Sharma, Deputy Director General (Standardisation-I), BIS; Laura Aylett, Head of Climate and Energy at the British High Commission; and Abbey Dorian jointly inaugurated the event, which brought together policymakers, technical experts, and industry leaders from both nations.
