Karnataka will set up a 200-acre semiconductor park within the upcoming KWIN City to boost its advanced industrial ecosystem. The initiative supports emerging sectors like semiconductors, drones and solar energy. With strong R&D capacity, major global investment efforts, ₹600 crore in tech support and new Centres of Excellence, the state aims to reinforce its leadership in frontier technologies.
The Karnataka government has announced plans to develop a 200-acre semiconductor park within the upcoming KWIN (Knowledge, Wellbeing and Innovation) City near Bengaluru, signalling the state’s push to strengthen its position in advanced industrial sectors. The initiative was unveiled by Minister for Large and Medium Industries Mr M. B. Patil at the inaugural session of the Bengaluru Tech Summit held at the Bengaluru International Exhibition Centre.
The semiconductor park will be designed with comprehensive infrastructure to attract global and domestic chip manufacturers, positioning it as an important innovation hub at both state and national levels.
Mr Patil highlighted that the Department of Large and Medium Industries is placing strong emphasis on securing investments from leading global technology firms and major anchor investors. These investments are expected to drive growth in emerging sectors such as drones, semiconductor devices, solar energy, and advanced industrial models.
Karnataka currently holds a leadership position in research and development with over 800 R&D centres, more than 100 chip-design companies and nearly 18,300 start-ups, working across artificial intelligence, deep tech, quantum computing, robotics, space technology and other frontier areas.
Of the 5,000 acres earmarked for KWIN City, a substantial portion will be dedicated to research and development, supported by a highly integrated innovation ecosystem. The state government has also allocated ₹600 crore to support enterprises working in frontier technologies. Additionally, a Centre of Excellence for AI and Quantum Computing is being planned in Dharwad, and industries are partnering with academic institutions in fields such as biotechnology and cybersecurity.
Notably, the Karnataka government had recently announced the development of four next-generation cities—KWIN City, SWIFT City, AI City and Quantum City—aimed at decongesting Bengaluru, drawing global investments, and generating lakhs of new jobs.
