The US-India trade consultations that were held on Friday concluded without any major progress being made. The bond between the two countries has so far been strained owing to their differences over issues such as tariffs and other protectionist measures imposed by both sides.Negotiations on vital matters such as agricultural commodities, e-commerce, and steel and aluminum have been deferred. Talks are expected to be taken forward next month when Commerce and Industry Minister Shri Piyush Goyal meets United States Trade Representative, Mr. Robert Lighthizer. India’s major concern remains that the US could be planning to push for a major FTA that could hurt India’s competitiveness.
