The demand for cybersecurity professionals in the country has gone up. Due to the rising demand the cyber security industry is struggling with a huge skill shortage. The demand for cybersecurity professionals in tech companies has escalated owing to the continuous rise in hackers and cybercriminals.
As digital threats are on the rise, organizations desperately need data protection.
The employee base of the domestic cybersecurity industry has increased from 0.1 million in 2021 to 0.21 million in 2022. It is expected to be at 0.3 million in 2023. Although this expansion represents only 6% of the global cybersecurity job market.
According to a study by tech staffing firm Team Lease, in May 2023 India had 40,000 job vacancies for cybersecurity professionals. Despite the strong demand and increasing salaries for cyber security roles, about 30% of the vacancies had remained unfilled due to a huge skill shortage.
Mr. Sunil Chemmankotil, Chief Executive Officer, Team Lease Digital said, “As India Inc. embraced digital infrastructures, the heightened vulnerability to cyber threats necessitates proactive measures. The prevalence of malware attacks, social engineering tactics, and other sophisticated cyber threats requires a comprehensive approach to safeguarding our digital frontiers.”
In the first quarter of 2023, there was a significant increase in cyberattacks. Indian organizations, during the period, experienced over 2000 attacks on a weekly basis. This marked an increase of about 18% as compared to the previous year.
Team Lease Digital report noted that the healthcare industry has been the prime target. About 7.7% of the attacks were directed towards it. The global weekly cyber-attacks have increased by 7% at 1,200 attacks per week.
