Indian cities like Pune, UP, Karnataka & Hyderabad are turning to tech giants such as Tech Mahindra, HCL Technologies & Infosys to offer solutions that could help them tackle the spread of Covid-19.
For example, Maharashtra’s Pimpri-Chinchwad township turned to its smart-city partner Tech Mahindra took steps to reduce the spread of the coronavirus after reporting a few initial cases. The company was quick to add new programmes to the existing smart-city infrastructure and started helping with aspects like contact-tracing and monitoring people under home quarantine. These solutions included using cameras and drones to track people movement during the lockdown and offering information n when stores and pharmacies are open. A geo-fencing solution to make sure that patients are restricted to a certain area is also on cards. Consequently, in this town it took 21 days for the number of Covid-19 cases to double from 12, significantly slower than in other parts of the country.
In UP, HCL Technologies has set up a control centre for the Gautam Buddh Nagar district administration to help resolve citizens’ queries about the coronavirus. In Karnataka, Infosys BPM has a call centre where agents call up people with recent overseas travel history to ensure that they followed isolation rules. Telangana government has a ‘Covid-19 Monitoring System App’, built by Vera Smart Healthcare, to identify and monitor people who are in isolation and provide real-time analytics.
