Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel each added approximately 2.7 million mobile subscribers in September 2026, according to a newspaper report dated October 27. The additions reflected continued competition among India’s leading telecom operators for new customers.
The report stated that India’s total telephone subscriber base increased by 7.23 million during the month, supported by additions across mobile and other telecom services.
Bharti Airtel’s subscriber base reached approximately 511.14 million at the end of September, compared with 508.43 million in August. The company recorded net additions of around 2.7 million users during the month.
Reliance Jio also added approximately 2.7 million subscribers. Its wireless subscriber base stood at around 506.19 million in September, according to the report, continuing its position among India’s largest telecom operators.
Vodafone Idea recorded a smaller net addition of approximately 500,000 subscribers during September. Its subscriber base reached around 200 million, indicating a more modest improvement compared with its larger competitors.
The report also highlighted developments in the fixed-wireless access segment. Jio’s fixed-wireless subscriber base continued to expand, supported by demand for home broadband services, while Airtel also reported growth in its fixed-wireless customer base.
Competition in India’s telecom market remains focused on expanding subscriber numbers, improving network coverage and attracting customers to broadband and other digital services. Operators are also seeking to increase revenue from existing customers through higher-value plans and additional services.
The September figures underline the continuing competition among Jio, Airtel and Vodafone Idea as telecom companies seek to strengthen their positions in India’s large and growing communications market.
