The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has suspended the licence of Tripura-based Matri Drinking Water after inspections revealed major food safety violations at the company’s packaged drinking water manufacturing facility.
The action follows complaints regarding the presence of foreign particles in packaged drinking water. During the inspection, food safety officials reportedly discovered multiple hygiene lapses that raised serious concerns about consumer safety.
According to the findings, several products were stored directly on the floor alongside non-food items, increasing the risk of contamination. Inspectors also found rusted chemical dosing containers, corroded RO tanks and inadequate cleanliness across water processing, filling and packaging sections of the plant.
Considering the seriousness of these violations, FSSAI suspended the company’s licence with immediate effect, preventing it from continuing operations until compliance issues are addressed.
In a separate regulatory action, the food safety authority also prohibited the sale of a health supplement batch manufactured by Noble Healthcare, based in Mohali, Punjab, as part of its ongoing enforcement drive against food safety violations.
Alongside these actions, FSSAI has issued fresh directions to food businesses, advising them not to use marketing claims such as “100% Pure,” “100% Natural,” or “100% Purity Guaranteed” on product packaging or advertisements unless they are fully compliant with applicable regulations. The regulator believes such claims may mislead consumers regarding product quality.
The latest enforcement measures reflect FSSAI’s continued efforts to strengthen food safety standards, improve manufacturing practices and ensure greater transparency across India’s packaged food and beverage industry.
