New Delhi, August 19: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday embarked on an official visit to Singapore, leading a high-level ministerial delegation for the fourth India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable (ISMR).
The roundtable is scheduled to take place on August 19 and 20 and is expected to focus on expanding economic cooperation between India and Singapore across several strategic sectors, according to the Finance Ministry.
Sitharaman is leading a delegation comprising External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, and Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology and Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada.
What is India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable?
Established in 2022, the India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable has emerged as an important high-level economic mechanism between the two countries.
It provides India and Singapore with a platform to review progress on existing initiatives while identifying new areas for cooperation.
The mechanism focuses on six key pillars — advanced manufacturing, connectivity, digitalisation, healthcare and medicine, skills development, and sustainability.
These areas have become increasingly important as India and Singapore look to strengthen economic and strategic ties while exploring opportunities in emerging technologies and future-focused industries.
Focus on New Economic Opportunities
According to the Finance Ministry, the fourth edition of the roundtable will build on progress achieved under the six identified pillars and explore fresh opportunities to further strengthen the India-Singapore economic partnership.
The participation of senior ministers covering finance, external affairs, commerce and industry, and electronics and information technology reflects the broad scope of discussions expected during the meeting.
The roundtable also provides both sides an opportunity to discuss cooperation in areas such as digital technologies, advanced industries, connectivity and sustainable development.
The latest meeting comes as India and Singapore continue to deepen their bilateral economic relationship and seek greater collaboration in sectors that could drive investment, innovation and long-term growth.
