New Delhi, June 27: India’s premium GI-tagged Rewa Sundarja Mango has made its international debut, with the first commercial export consignment reaching the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The milestone was facilitated by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, marking a significant step in promoting India’s unique agricultural products in global markets.
The inaugural shipment of one metric tonne was exported on June 26, 2026, by Salt Range Foods Pvt. Ltd. after months of coordinated efforts involving APEDA, the Madhya Pradesh Department of Horticulture, Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), exporters, pack house operators and international buyers.
The export consignment consisted of premium-quality Rewa Sundarja Mangoes sourced from Seondha Farmer Producer Company Limited and progressive farmer Sonu Gupta from Govindgarh in Rewa district. The mangoes were graded, sorted and packed at an APEDA-supported pack house in Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh, before being transported to Varanasi Airport for air shipment to the UAE after completing all phytosanitary and export formalities.
The export has brought direct financial benefits to farmers in the Rewa region. While the local market price for the mangoes ranges between ₹100 and ₹110 per kilogram, exporters procured the produce at ₹150 per kilogram, providing farmers with an additional premium of ₹40 to ₹50 per kilogram. Officials believe this will encourage more growers to adopt export-quality production and post-harvest practices.
Known for its exceptional sweetness, rich aroma, fibreless pulp and distinctive flavour, the Rewa Sundarja Mango has significant export potential. APEDA said the successful shipment highlights the growing importance of Geographical Indication (GI) products in international markets and strengthens Madhya Pradesh’s position as an emerging hub for premium mango exports.
The export was flagged off during a special ceremony on June 26, celebrating the collaborative efforts of APEDA, the state government, exporters, FPOs and farmers. Going forward, APEDA aims to expand exports of GI-tagged agricultural products by strengthening export infrastructure, improving quality standards and developing international market linkages.
