Within the first year of starting production in the country under the production-linked incentive scheme, Apple is expected to close FY22 with exports worth Rs 10,000 crore. This target was attained by two of Apple’s contract manufacturers, who have been selected under the PLI scheme — Wistron (located in Karnataka) and Foxconn Hon Hai (located in Tamil Nadu). SE 2020, which is made by Wistron, followed by iPhone 11 and 12, which are being made by Foxconn, are the most exported Apple handsets.
Reports suggest that during the fiscal, the tech major was able to meet 75-80% of its total demand in India through domestic production. Last year though, Apple was able to meet only 10-15% of the demand through domestic production. It is anticipated that during the next fiscal, the company will be able to meet even higher percentage of domestic demand through its domestic output.
