BASF India has introduced two of its latest global crop protection innovations—Valexio Insecticide and Mibelya Fungicide—targeting India’s most vital food crop, rice. These advanced solutions aim to enhance rice yields by effectively managing key pests such as rice hoppers and combating diseases like sheath blight. Their launch aligns with India’s broader food security goals.
As the world’s second-largest rice producer, India contributes nearly 40% to global rice trade. However, climate change has significantly impacted rice cultivation, bringing erratic weather patterns, droughts, and increased pest outbreaks, particularly rice hoppers, which have led to declining yields and poor crop quality.
“Valexio is BASF’s latest insecticide and marks a pivotal moment, not only for rice growers in Asia Pacific, but for our long-term commitment to the Rice Crop System in the region. We are very excited to be able to launch it first in India because we know how rice growers are in need for new chemistry to support their pest management,” said Marko Grozdanovic. The new molecule shows no known cross-resistance with current market standards and offers strong residual control across all stages of hopper development. Studies also reveal that Valexio strengthens the rice plant with better stem structure, a denser canopy, increased root mass, and broader flag leaves, contributing to higher yield potential.
As monsoon season approaches, farmers require innovative chemistry for effective disease control. Mibelya brings a dual mode of action through its active ingredients Revysol and Xemium, offering faster action, deeper protection, and long-lasting control against sheath blight and dirty panicle.
