Expanding on the achievements of the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for mobile phones, the Union Cabinet, under PM Narendra Modi, sanctioned the PLI Scheme 2.0 for IT hardware. Encompassing laptops, tablets, all-in-one PCs, servers, and ultra-small form factor devices, this scheme aims to incentivize and promote domestic manufacturing in these product categories.

Building upon the success of the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme designed for mobile phones, the Union Cabinet, led by PM Narendra Modi, gave its approval to the PLI Scheme 2.0 for IT hardware. This revised scheme extends its coverage to include laptops, tablets, all-in-one PCs, servers, and ultra-small form factor devices. The objective is to encourage and support domestic manufacturing in these specific segments.
Approximately 200,000 jobs are expected to be created, with 50,000 being direct positions and about 150,000 being indirect opportunities. The production value of IT hardware is projected to reach 3,50,000 crore rupees (equivalent to 42 billion US dollars).
Companies are set to invest a total of 3,000 crore rupees (360 million US dollars) in the IT hardware sector. Minister of Railways, Communications and Electronics and IT, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, announced that 23 out of the 27 approved applicants are prepared to commence manufacturing from day zero.
