The Electronic National Agriculture Market’s (e-NAM) trade turnover on the digital network is expected to surpass Rs 1 trillion in the current fiscal year, up from Rs 74,656 crore in 2022–23. When compared to the same time in the previous year, inter-mandi commerce on the platform increased by 287% from April to July to Rs 449 crore.
Since the start of the year, interstate trade, which had been declining until a year ago, has begun to increase. 25 additional mandis have been authorized for integration with the National Agriculture Market by the agricultural ministry, enabling farmers to sell their products online.
In Maharashtra (15), Jammu and Kashmir (6), and Uttarakhand (4), new mandis are being merged. The total number of mandis using the e-NAM platform after this integration would be 1386. Currently, 1,361 mandis are connected to the this platform throughout 27 states and Union Territories. 17.96 million farmers, 3043 FPOs, 0.24 million dealers, and roughly 0.1 million commission agents are also registered with e-NAM.
Since April 2016, 7000 mandis across 27 states and union territories in India have been urged to use the e-NAM platform. Farmers now have more access to e-NAM thanks to the Agriculture Ministry’s approval of year-round mandis for multi-commodities trade on a pan-Indian digital platform.
The agriculture ministry reports a gradual shift to digital platforms for better price discovery in inter-mandi trade, accounting for Rs 20,926 crore in April-July 2023-24. The e-NAM platform facilitates inter-state trade in 209 commodities, with a recorded Rs. 2.79 trillion trade since launch.
