Global e-commerce is projected to remain upbeat in the coming years. According to Global Payments Report 2023, the global e-commerce transaction value may increase from US$6 trillion in 2022 to over US$ 8.5 trillion in 2026, growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9%.

The report by Florida-based Fidelity National Information Services, Inc. (FIS) said, “The explosive growth in global e-commerce in the first two years of the pandemic has slightly slowed in 2022, with a 10 per cent YoY growth in global e-commerce transaction value from 2021-2022…Despite reduced growth rates compared to the initial pandemic period, the forecast for global e-commerce remains bullish.”

The report noted that the pandemic has had a significant impact on e-commerce. During the pandemic, people started relying more on online shopping. The shift in consumer behaviour towards digital payments during the pandemic further consolidated and has continued to drive e-commerce growth.

Technological advancements and improvements in digital infrastructure have also made online shopping more accessible and convenient, according to the report.

The report, covering 40 markets across the world, projected global e-commerce to grow worldwide. Double-digit growth is expected in emerging markets.

According to the report, “This trend presents attractive opportunities for cross-border e-commerce. Therefore, the report suggests that businesses should develop cross-border e-commerce capabilities to benefit from the high-growth markets.”
