Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highway of India stated that the groundbreaking India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway project is currently nearly 70% complete. Through the collaboration of the three nations, a 1400 km long highway will be built, giving the country access to Southeast Asia. The union of India, Myanmar, and Thailand will aid in the opening of international doors in the domains of commerce, health, trade, education, and tourism.
The minister omitted to mention the operationalization of the trilateral roadway and every last detail of project completion. The projected highway will connect Moreh in Manipur, India, with Mae Sot in Thailand, which lies across Myanmar.
It was recently revealed by a group of commerce ministers from the three countries that the trilateral highway connecting Kolkata with Bangkok via Myanmar is expected to be finished in four years. It is not widely known, but former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the inspiration for the creation of this trilateral road link project. At a ministerial conference held in April 2002 with officials from three different countries, the planned project received final approval.
According to a TOI article, the proposed trilateral road link will pass through Moreh, Guwahati, Kohima, Srirampur, Siliguri, and Kolkata on its way to connecting to Mae Sot, Sukhothai in Thailand, and Mandalay, Kalwa, Yagnon, and Tamu in Myanmar. The big project is projected to cover a total distance of more than 2,800 km, with India scheduled to have the largest section of the highway and Thailand the shortest.
