India is launching an investigation into notifications sent by Apple Inc., the iPhone manufacturer, to numerous individuals, including Opposition party MPs, who assert that state-sponsored attackers have been trying to compromise their Apple devices.
The government formally requested Apple’s cooperation in their investigation, seeking accurate information regarding the alleged state-sponsored cyberattacks. This request was made by the Minister of Telecom and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, in response to disclosures made on the microblogging platform X, previously known as Twitter.
These disclosures were made by several Members of Parliament, including Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge, K.C. Venugopal, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, Mahua Moitra from the Trinamool Congress, Priyanka Chaturvedi of the Shiv Sena (UBT), and Raghav Chadha from the Aam Aadmi Party, along with some lawyers and journalists.
“The government is very concerned and will get to the bottom of the issue. An investigation has been ordered into this matter already,” the minister stated.
We urge all those who have received the advisory to assist with the investigation to ensure a thorough examination of the matter, he further stated that the investigation will encompass a profound technical domain, with support provided by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In). Additionally, the inquiry may enlist the assistance of law enforcement agencies as deemed necessary.
