Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday virtually inaugurated a milk powder manufacturing facility in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, valued at ₹76.5 crore. This initiative forms a key part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen the agriculture, animal husbandry, and food processing sectors across the country. The new plant has been developed under the aegis of the Indore Cooperative Milk Union with support from the National Programme for Dairy Development (NPDD), reflecting the government’s commitment to modernizing dairy infrastructure and promoting cooperative-led growth.
The state-of-the-art facility boasts a production capacity of 30 tonnes of milk powder per day. It is designed to enhance milk processing efficiency, minimize wastage, and add greater value to the dairy supply chain, benefiting farmers in the region. By streamlining production and distribution, the plant is expected to improve overall operational efficiency while offering consumers access to high-quality dairy products. The project underscores a focus on integrating technological advancements and best practices into India’s dairy processing landscape.
During the inauguration, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav highlighted Madhya Pradesh’s ambition to significantly increase its share of India’s total milk production. Currently contributing around 9% to the national output, the state aims to raise this to 20% within the next five years. He emphasized that the new milk powder plant will play a pivotal role in positioning Madhya Pradesh as a prominent contributor to the country’s dairy sector while simultaneously creating better income opportunities for local farmers.
The Chief Minister also reiterated the state government’s commitment to ensuring fair and timely compensation for agricultural producers, citing the success of the Bhavantar Bhugtan Yojana, which has been particularly effective in supporting soybean cultivators. This initiative, along with the new dairy facility, exemplifies the state’s dual focus on enhancing farmer welfare and boosting agricultural productivity.
Officials pointed out that the plant will strengthen the supply chain for milk and other dairy products, support rural livelihoods, and contribute to India’s growing potential in dairy exports. By serving as a model for cooperative-driven value addition, the Indore milk powder plant aligns with the government’s vision of creating a self-reliant and globally competitive food processing ecosystem. The project not only demonstrates the integration of cooperative structures into modern dairy production but also reinforces the broader objective of achieving sustainable growth in India’s agriculture and food processing sectors.
This development reflects a strategic effort to combine infrastructure enhancement, farmer empowerment, and industry modernization, establishing a benchmark for future initiatives in the dairy sector.
