Need to impart digital skills: Nasscom

The requirement for digitally-skilled workforce will rise at a CAGR of 35% between FY 2019-2023 to 2.3-2.7 million according to the data computed by Nasscom. The IT lobby identified providing digitally useful skills as the top agenda for the next 3 years. This could be done through the strategic roadmap of enabling 100 universities to supply digital talent and upskilling four million professionals by 2025. It also entails a shift from STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) to STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics) across the industry. There’s already a rise in investment in technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), data science, cybersecurity, cloud, blockchain and several other segments according to the body.

“If we don’t fix the problem of talent pool immediately, there will be a point where companies are going to start hiring from each other. That’s going to have a big impact on wages and will redefine the competition landscape for companies,” stated Ms. Debjani Ghosh, President, Nasscom.
