PUBG breaks up with Chinese firm Tencent Games in India

The PUBG Corporation has rescinded its publishing ties with Tencent Games in India in the aftermath of the ban on this popular battle royale game by the Indian government over privacy concerns. As a result, Tencent Games will lose the franchise for PUBG Mobile in India. The company also stated that it fully understood and respected the measures taken by the government as privacy and security of player data was a top priority for it.

PUBG Corporation is a subsidiary of the South Korean video game company Bluehole. PUBG Mobile was initially launched for market entry into China. It was released in China only after Tencent Games acquired a 1.5% stake in Bluehole Studio.

After the ban on PUBG Mobile Nordic Map: Livik and PUBG Mobile Lite in India, the company has stated that it looks forward to work with the government for a solution “that will allow gamers to once again drop into the battlegrounds while being fully compliant with Indian laws and regulations.” Now the company will take over all publishing responsibilities in the contry as it “explores ways to provide its own PUBG experience for India in the near future.”
