Reliance Jio and Airtel have raised their tariffs effective July 3, 2024, affecting millions of subscribers across India. This move aims to increase their average revenue per user (ARPU). Subscribers must take action to mitigate the impending price changes. However, there is a way to avoid the tariff hike.

Prepaid subscribers can avoid upcoming tariff increases by recharging before July 3. Completing recharges before this date guarantees current rates, protecting users from future plan changes or price increases. This proactive step can result in significant savings, particularly for those with long-term plans. For example, annual data packs may differ by up to Rs 600 between Reliance Jio and Airtel.

To maximise savings, users should assess their monthly data usage. If they usually use less data than their current plan allows, switching to a lower data plan before the recharge deadline can be financially advantageous. This allows users to take advantage of lower rates before the new tariffs are implemented.

Reliance Jio’s tariff increases will range between 12% and 25%, while Airtel’s changes will range from 11% to 21%. For example, Jio’s popular Rs 239 monthly plan, which currently provides 1.5GB of daily data, will rise to Rs 299, a 25% increase.

Postpaid customers, on the other hand, will see immediate price adjustments in their next billing cycle. They can cut costs by evaluating their data usage and possibly switching to more affordable plans.
