The National Green Hydrogen Mission of India has allocated more than Rs 1,906 crore till now. The allocation comprises Rs 400 crore for R&D purposes and Rs.1506 crore allocated across three Ministries and other supported projects.
The allocations made across three Ministries include Rs 455 crore to the Ministry of Steel, till 2029-30; around Rs 155 crore to the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) till 2025-26; and about Rs 400 crore for the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) till 2025-26. An amount of Rs 400 crore has been allotted to other supporting projects.
The National Green Hydrogen Mission was given approval by the Union Cabinet earlier this year, with an allocation of Rs 19,744 crore. Of this, the Center has set aside Rs 17,490 crore for the SIGHT (Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition) program. The mission has set a target of procuring 5 million tonnes (mt) of green hydrogen per year by 2030.
The R&D scheme guidelines under the National Green Hydrogen Mission are to be finalized by October. However, the request for proposals will probably be issued by November. It has also been proposed to establish a National Center for Hydrogen Safety.
The themes and format of the pilot projects are still awaited from the Ministry of Steel and MoPSW, according to a report by the Empowered Group of the National Green Hydrogen Mission. The report also stated that by the end of 2023, the adoption and implementation of international standards and codes for hydrogen-powered vehicles will be complete.
