Global Risks Drive Market Moves
New Delhi, September 6, 2026: Indian equity markets are likely to remain sensitive to crude oil prices, developments in the West Asia conflict and upcoming US inflation data in the coming week, analysts said. Foreign investor activity, the rupee and global market trends will also influence domestic equities.
Analysts said stronger-than-expected US employment data has increased attention on the Federal Reserve’s September policy decision. The upcoming US inflation figures could play an important role in determining expectations around interest rates and global market sentiment.
Crude oil has emerged as a key concern for investors. Brent crude gained more than 8 per cent during the previous week, while WTI crude rose over 9 per cent as renewed US-Iran tensions and concerns over the Strait of Hormuz increased the geopolitical risk premium.
Higher oil prices could have implications for India’s inflation, current account balance and corporate profitability. Analysts are therefore closely monitoring developments around the Strait of Hormuz and their potential impact on energy supplies.
Global bond yields and the US dollar are also expected to influence foreign capital flows. Rising Treasury yields and a stronger dollar can reduce the attractiveness of emerging-market assets, including Indian equities.
The domestic market remained under pressure last week. The 30-share BSE Sensex declined 749.08 points, or 0.96 per cent, while the NSE Nifty fell 277.95 points, or 1.14 per cent. The Nifty-50 extended its losing streak to four consecutive weeks.
Market analysts expect volatility to remain elevated as investors assess geopolitical developments, crude prices, US inflation and monetary policy expectations. Foreign institutional flows, domestic liquidity and movements in the rupee will remain additional factors to watch.
