The Central Government has provided an important update on the 8th Pay Commission in Parliament, offering clarity on when central government employees and pensioners can expect its recommendations.
Responding to a question during the Monsoon Session, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said that the 8th Pay Commission was constituted on November 3, 2025 and has been given 18 months to complete its work and submit its final report to the government.
The minister clarified that the Commission is functioning independently under its terms of reference and is not required to provide regular progress updates to the government. He added that the panel is consulting various employee groups and stakeholders before finalising its recommendations.
Following the government’s statement, employee organisations said the Commission’s report is expected to be submitted by April 2027. Representatives have urged the Commission to complete its work at the earliest so that the revised salary and pension recommendations can be implemented without further delay.
The Commission has already completed its first round of meetings in Kolkata and is scheduled to hold its next meeting in Delhi on August 7, followed by another round in Chennai later this year. These consultations are aimed at gathering feedback from employees and other stakeholders.
The 8th Pay Commission is expected to recommend revisions in the salary structure, pension benefits and allowances for lakhs of central government employees and pensioners. While no official implementation date has been announced, the government’s latest clarification has provided a clearer timeline for the Commission’s work.
