The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has intensified its enforcement drive by suspending the licence of Tripura-based Matri Drinking Water following serious food safety violations found during inspections.
According to the regulator, complaints regarding foreign particles in packaged drinking water prompted a detailed inspection of the facility. Officials discovered several hygiene lapses, including rusted RO tanks, corroded chemical dosing containers, poorly maintained processing equipment and unsafe handling practices inside the manufacturing unit.
The inspection also found food products stored directly on the floor alongside non-food items, increasing the risk of contamination. Based on these findings, FSSAI suspended the company’s licence with immediate effect.
Apart from the action against Matri Drinking Water, the regulator also prohibited the sale of a health supplement batch manufactured by Noble Healthcare in Mohali.
FSSAI has simultaneously issued fresh guidance to food businesses regarding marketing claims. Companies have been instructed not to use terms such as “100% Pure”, “100% Natural” or “100% Purity Guaranteed” on product labels or advertisements unless they can be fully substantiated, as such claims may mislead consumers.
The latest enforcement action reflects FSSAI’s continued focus on improving food safety standards, strengthening regulatory compliance and protecting consumer health across the packaged food and beverage industry.
