New Delhi: The International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT) has issued its first compliance certificate for a 15-metre multi-axle sleeper bus, marking a milestone in the testing and certification of advanced passenger transport vehicles in India.
The certificate was awarded to Synaty Automotive Pvt. Ltd. for its 15-metre multi-axle sleeper bus under AIS-119 and AIS-153, in accordance with applicable provisions of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules (CMVR).
Saurabh Dalela, Director of ICAT, handed over the certification to Naresh Kumar Yadav, Managing Director of Synaty Automotive.
Designed for Long-Distance Travel
The certified vehicle has been developed primarily for long-distance passenger transportation and represents one of the longest permissible bus configurations within the passenger transport category.
Its fully sleeper configuration can accommodate 42 berths, catering to overnight and intercity travel. A hybrid configuration has also been developed with 21 berths and 42 seats, providing operators with an alternative layout combining conventional seating and sleeper accommodation.
The vehicle incorporates provisions covering structural strength, passenger movement, emergency response, fire safety and travel comfort. These areas are particularly important for larger sleeper buses designed to operate over long distances.
Safety and Structural Compliance
ICAT tested the vehicle against applicable requirements governing vehicle safety, structural integrity, passenger accommodation and comfort under relevant automotive standards and CMVR provisions.
The certification process helps establish whether new passenger vehicle designs meet prescribed technical and safety requirements before wider deployment.
Dalela said the certification demonstrates ICAT’s technical capabilities in testing and certifying advanced passenger vehicles while reinforcing the organisation’s focus on passenger safety, regulatory compliance and technological advancement.
