Social Media Joins The Party
Reliance Jio’s 10th anniversary turned social media into a lively virtual birthday party on September 8, with some of India’s biggest consumer, technology, entertainment and sports brands joining the celebrations.
Instead of limiting their messages to conventional corporate birthday wishes, brands used their own identities, popular references and social-media personalities to interact with Jio. The result was a series of playful exchanges that turned a corporate milestone into a broader digital marketing moment.
Prime Video delivered one of the most distinctive birthday messages, borrowing the popular Panchayat reference and writing, “Lauki nahi laaye hain… but 10 saal ki wishes zaroor laaye hain.” Jio responded in the same playful spirit: “Wishes accepted. Lauki optional.”
Netflix also brought its signature style to the celebration. Its message, “Skip intro, we’ve known each other for 10 years,” referenced the familiar language of its streaming platform. Jio replied by transforming the decade into a streaming-style milestone of its own: “Tudum! 10 seasons of being connected.”
OnePlus joined the conversation by describing itself as Jio’s “Plus One,” adding another layer of brand-specific humour to the celebrations.
Food Brands Bring The Party
Food-delivery platforms were quick to turn the anniversary into a virtual party.
Zomato announced that it was “sending cake,” prompting Jio to respond, “Now that was quick.”
Swiggy took a similarly informal approach, asking Jio, “10 years already? bhai, party?” Jio’s response—“Bhai, ab toh scene on hai”—kept the exchange firmly in the language of social-media banter.
The interactions demonstrate how large brands increasingly use conversational content rather than conventional promotional messaging to participate in cultural moments.
Cricket Teams Join The Celebration
The birthday conversation took a distinctly cricketing turn when IPL franchises joined the celebrations.
Kolkata Knight Riders described Jio’s journey as a “Besh bhalo innings,” while Jio responded that an “even better innings” was ahead.
Delhi Capitals used a distinctly Delhi-themed line, saying, “Dilli se hai, toh dil se hai.”
Punjab Kings described the decade as a “King-sized innings,” while Rajasthan Royals brought its familiar “Halla Bol” energy to the occasion.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru connected Jio’s 10-year journey with the themes of playing bold, breaking barriers and setting benchmarks.
The result was a birthday celebration that increasingly resembled cricket commentary, with a corporate anniversary being described through the language of innings, milestones and long-term performance.
Technology Ecosystem Gets Involved
The celebrations extended well beyond consumer-facing brands.
Technology and networking companies including Samsung Networks, Cisco, Ericsson, Qualcomm and HFCL also participated in the anniversary conversation, highlighting the broader technology ecosystem associated with Jio’s journey.
Smartphone brands such as Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo and Motorola were also part of the social-media activity. Payment platforms including Paytm, PhonePe and MobiKwik added their own messages, while travel-related brands brought their respective themes into the anniversary conversation.
The wide participation reflects the scale of Jio’s presence across India’s digital economy. From telecom and smartphones to payments, entertainment, technology and cricket, the brand has become connected to multiple aspects of the country’s digital ecosystem.
Brands Put Personality Before Formality
Perhaps the most notable aspect of the celebration was that participating brands largely retained their own personalities while congratulating Jio.
Prime Video used its entertainment characters and references. Netflix relied on its distinctive streaming vocabulary. Food-delivery platforms turned the occasion into a virtual party, while cricket franchises used the language of innings and sporting achievements.
This approach reflects a broader shift in digital marketing. Social media has moved beyond being a platform for formal corporate announcements. Brands increasingly use it as a space for real-time conversations, humour, cultural references and cross-brand engagement.
Jio’s 10th anniversary therefore became more than a milestone for one company. It also offered a snapshot of how India’s leading brands communicate with one another—and with consumers—through social platforms.
The celebration showed that when brands allow their personalities to come through, even a corporate anniversary can become a shared cultural moment rather than simply another promotional post.
