Jimny, Fronx and e Vitara Drive Growth
Maruti Suzuki India has crossed a major export milestone, with cumulative exports of its Made-in-India Jimny 5-door, Fronx and e Vitara to Japan surpassing 1 lakh units.
The achievement highlights India’s growing role in Suzuki’s global manufacturing network and reflects the increasing acceptance of Indian-made vehicles in one of the world’s most competitive automobile markets.
Maruti Suzuki began exporting the Fronx to Japan in August 2024. The Jimny 5-door was added to the Japanese market in December 2024, while the company’s first Battery Electric Vehicle, the e Vitara, joined the export portfolio in September 2025.
The company said the milestone is particularly significant because Japan has some of the world’s most demanding automobile customers and stringent market standards. The performance of these vehicles in Japan therefore provides an important validation of India’s manufacturing capabilities and quality standards.
Jimny 5-door and e Vitara are manufactured exclusively in India, further strengthening the country’s position within Suzuki’s global production network. The growing export volumes also demonstrate the increasing ability of Indian manufacturing facilities to produce vehicles for sophisticated international markets.
Japan emerged as Maruti Suzuki’s second-largest export market by volume in FY26, and the company said it retained this position during the first five months of the current fiscal year, from April to August 2026.
The success of the three models has also contributed to Suzuki Motor Corporation becoming the top vehicle importer in Japan in the previous financial year. Maruti Suzuki-manufactured vehicles accounted for nearly 100 per cent of Suzuki’s imports into Japan during the period, according to the company.
Maruti Suzuki Managing Director and CEO Hisashi Takeuchi said the milestone represents a strong endorsement of India’s manufacturing capabilities. He also highlighted the evolution of the India-Japan partnership, with vehicles manufactured in India gaining acceptance among Japanese consumers.
The development could further strengthen India’s ambitions to become a global automobile manufacturing and export hub. Increasing exports to advanced markets such as Japan can also encourage higher investments in technology, quality systems and manufacturing capacity.
With the addition of electric vehicles such as the e Vitara to its international portfolio, Maruti Suzuki’s export strategy is also expanding beyond conventional internal-combustion vehicles. This could provide India with opportunities to participate more deeply in the global transition towards electric mobility.
