In the light of the ongoing trade friction between US & China & the likely dumping of aluminium & copper products in India, industry insiders cautioned the government about the spike in China’s exports. This came ahead of the meeting of Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) on May 24.
“The presence of China in RCEP is the biggest threat for Indian aluminium industry,” the Aluminium Association of India (AAI) argued. FTAs with RCEP are seen as the contributors to the situation by AAI. A similar concern was voiced by Primary Copper Producers Association (PCPA). In addition, the dumping of copper by China (as an outcome of its National Sword Policy which curtails scrap import) is another cause of concern.
