Commerce and industry Minister Shri Piyush Goyal, whose visit to US is coinciding with that of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, will work with US officials on resolving bilateral trade issues. These pertain to areas like reinstating Generalised System of Preferences (GSP), duty cuts on Harley Davidson bikes, market access to US agricultural commodities and price controls on medical devices.
The two countries have been trying to iron out their differences since last year when the US imposed global additional tariffs of 25% and 10% on the import of steel and aluminium products, respectively. India retaliated by imposing tariffs on 28 products originating or exported from the US with effect from June 16 for which Washington dragged it to the WTO.
