The union Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare has chalked out a list of 21 agricultural commodities including honey, potatoes, grapes, soya beans and groundnuts, in which Indian exports could benefit from trade restrictions against Chinese goods. In the wake of the supply disruption created by the Corona-infected China, India can step in and fill this void. In 2018, the total value of China’s global exports of these products amounted to US $ 5488.6 million.
“There may be opportunities for Indian exporters of agri-items, in case some countries impose restrictions on Chinese goods in response to outbreak of COVID-19. Opportunities may arise in case of other countries imposing import restriction on these tariff lines,” said the agriculture ministry in a report submit the Finance Ministry. Vietnam, USA, Japan, UK, Philippines, Malaysia, Russia & Korea are some of the major markets where India can export these commodities.
