EU proposes ban on products made by using ‘forced labaour’

The European Union (EU) is proposing to impose a ban on the products that are made by using ‘forced labour’. The European Commission’s Forced Labour Product Ban regulation would not only cover the products imported into the European market, but also those produced using forced labour, within the European Union.

According to the European Union (EU) document, “Such prohibition should apply to products for which forced labour has been used at any stage of their production, manufacture, harvest and extraction, including working or processing related to the products”.

The Commissioner for Trade Valdis Dombrovskis expects that the said proposal would go on to make a “real difference in tackling the modern-day slavery”. He further added, “Our aim is to eliminate all products made with forced labour from the EU market, irrespective of where they have been made”.
