Export norms for face shields, surgical masks & medical goggles eased

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) eased norms for the export of face shields, certain kinds of surgical masks and medical goggles in a notification on Tuesday. While the export of face shields has been henceforth made free; outward shipments of 2/3 ply surgical masks and medical goggles have been allowed with certain conditions.

In the wake of rising cases of the COVID-19 pandemic in India, government had earlier banned the export of 2/3 Ply surgical masks, medical goggles and face shields. As per the latest guidelines, the export of these masks and goggles is moved from banned category to restricted one, under which an exporter has to seek a permission or licence from the DGFT.

The government has fixed a monthly export quota of 4 crore units for 2/3 Ply surgical masks, and 20 lakh units for medical goggles for issuing licenses to eligible applicants as per the criteria to be separately issued.
