Amazon, with the help of Souq, a Dubai-based e-commerce company, will allow India’s online vendors to export their products to the UAE. This move is likely to trigger an increase in the sales of jewellery, apparel, beauty and groceries by Indian sellers. According to Gopal Pillai, vice-president of seller services at Amazon India, “there is a lot of demand-side parallel of Indian and UAE customers”. Amazon had acquired Souq for US$ 580 million in cash in 2017.
It is interesting to note that UAE is the e-commerce leader among Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states with an expected market size of US$ 20 billion in 2019.
