The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) wants to amend the Food Safety and Standards Act so that it gets more jurisdiction over India’s food exports & imports. The proposal by the agency to the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare also encompasses accountability for food-related offences. FSSAI also wants to bring animal feed under its scope of work so as to enhance the overall quality & safety of food. The plan also aims to simplify the licensing process required by food businesses & regulations for e-commerce agencies by doing away with the annual renewal of food company licenses.
