According to a new report by the International Energy Agency (IEA), the world is going through an energy crisis and despite that, the low-emission hydrogen is growing gradually. According to IEA’s annual Global Hydrogen Review, global demand of the hydrogen increased to 94 million tonnes in 2021 from 91 million of tonnes in 2019. The demand for the novel uses of hydrogen increased by 60% in 2021, though it only increased by 40,000 tons since the basis was so low.
It expects manufacturing of electrolysers to increase further, and major projects are flourishing in new industries, which includes transportation and steel. “Electrolysers, which are required to manufacture low-emission hydrogen from renewable power, are predicted to see a six-fold rise in worldwide manufacturing capacity by 2025, which is one of the promising advancements in hydrogen technologies that can help the clean energy transition,” report added.
In 2021, the production of low-emission hydrogen was less than 1 million ton. Most of them emerged from the fossil fuel facilities which used the carbon capture, use, and storage.
