Commerce Secretary Anup Wadhawan and General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) Vice-Minister Li Guo signed a protocol for exports of Indian chilli meal to China on Thursday. This is the fourth such protocol to facilitate exports of agri-commodities from India to China. Similar protocols have been signed in the past for basmati and non-basmati rice, fish meal and oil and tobacco leaves.
During the meeting, India also discussed market access issues for bovine meat and soyabean meal, apart from products like pomegranate, okra, sapota, banana, papaya, pineapple, maize and sorghum, which are awaiting approval from China. Sugar is another sore point, where quota was not released by Beijing in time despite approvals.
