During a meeting with his German counterpart Boris Pistorius on Tuesday, June 6th, defense minister Rajnath Singh pitched for opportunities in the defense production sector, including the possibility of German investments in the two defense industrial corridors in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
They looked into methods to collaborate with Germany on important military platforms. According to officials, the two defense ministers also discussed regional security concerns, notably China’s growing aggressiveness in the Indo-Pacific and other regions.
The officials also stated that India’s proposal to purchase six stealth conventional submarines for roughly Rs 43,000 crore was discussed, and Pistorius demonstrated Germany’s enthusiasm for the project. ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) of Germany is one of the candidates for the contract.
The submarines will be produced under the much-discussed strategic partnership model, which permits domestic defense manufacturers to collaborate with leading international defense majors to produce high-end military assets in order to lessen reliance on imports.
Mr. Singh emphasized that India and Germany should develop a more “symbiotic relationship” based on similar goals and complementarity of capabilities, such as talented labour and competitive costs in India and high technology and investment in Germany.
They stated that the Indian military sector may engage in the supply chains of the German defense industry and provide value to the ecosystem, in addition to contributing to supply chain resilience.
