Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the collective determination of 140 crore Indians to establish the nation as a manufacturing and innovation powerhouse. Since its launch on September 25, 2014, the Make in India initiative has seen significant progress, with the government reporting the creation of one startup every hour and approximately 15 lakh jobs generated.

The number of startups in India skyrocketed from just over 350 in 2014 to 1.48 lakh registered under the Startup India program. Notably, 45% of these startups originated from Tier II and Tier III cities, and more than 1 crore patents have been granted since 2014.

The MSME sector has also thrived, with over 4.91 crore registered enterprises on the Udyam portal, including 1.85 crore women-owned businesses. These registered units have collectively generated 21.17 crore jobs and contributed 30.1% to India’s GDP in 2022-23.

Shobha Karandlaje, Minister of State for MSME, noted that Make in India has sparked a manufacturing revolution, promoting local business, especially among MSMEs. Former NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant highlighted revised MSME thresholds aimed at fueling growth while maintaining benefits.

Over the past decade, achievements include Rs 1.55 lakh crore in khadi sales for 2023-24, Rs 1.28 lakh crore in investments realized under the PLI scheme leading to over 8.5 lakh jobs, and a 239% increase in toy exports since the National Action Plan for toys was implemented in 2020.
