Medical visas to be granted on case-to-case basis

Indian authorities have decided to consider requests from foreign nationals holding medical visas on a case-by-case basis. Indian missions present in these countries will decide whether these individuals who were granted medical visas and require immediate medical attention and accordingly decide to allow or deny access to them. This comes at a time when India is a popular choice for medical tourism and like the rest of the world, has been smitten by the Coronavirus contagion, forcing the government to curb international travel.

“Visas of all foreigners already in India will remain valid. Any foreigner for onward journey to India may contact the nearest Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) through e-FRRO module for extension/conversion, etc., of their visa or grant of any consular service if they choose to do so,” home ministry deputy director Dinosh Adhikari stated in a written circular.
