New policy expected for exports via e-commerce

Department for Promotion of Industry & Internal Trade is planning to come up with a strategic roadmap to boost India’s exports via the e-commerce route. The policy will reportedly incorporate the role of several entities like Reserve Bank of India, India Post, customs authorities as well as export promotion councils. An official quoted that the Department had met a number of stakeholders including Amazon, eBay and PayPal, apart from other government departments and export promotion councils, with the aim to set up a seamless factory-to-ship system.

According to data from LocalCircles, India exported US$ 1.2 billion worth of products via e-commerce in 2018-19, in categories like home decor/furnishings, medicinal products, books, fashion apparel and beauty products.
