Odisha, known for its rich cultural heritage and scenic landscapes, is pushing ambitious tourism initiatives that blend adventure, heritage, and ecotourism.

Speaking at the FinancialExpress.com Adventure Tourism Meet in Shillong, Deputy Chief Minister and Tourism Minister Pravati Parida highlighted the state’s ambitious tourism projects. These include the Buddhist Circuit, the Ekamra Corridor, and the Puri-Konark Heritage Corridor, which will immerse visitors in Odisha’s rich cultural and historical heritage.

Odisha is also enhancing its adventure tourism, with plans for trekking in Koraput’s Deomali hills and water sports, including scuba diving, at the Silver City Boat Club in Cuttack. Though the 2022 adventure tourism policy is still pending, Ms Parida expressed her commitment to implementing it soon, aiming to attract young thrill-seekers.

In ecotourism, the state is developing scenic destinations like Simlipal, the Hirakud riverfront, and the Bhitarkanika wetlands. Along the Bay of Bengal coastline, Odisha has plans for high-end projects in Puri and Konark, with major hotel chains invited to invest. Additionally, a proposed international airport in Puri is expected to boost accessibility and visitor numbers.

Ms Parida’s recent visit to Meghalaya served as inspiration for promoting sustainable, locally driven tourism. She mentioned the state’s efforts to make its Eco Retreats more affordable and accessible while exploring new offbeat destinations. She also celebrated Maniabandha’s recognition as India’s ‘Best Tourism Village,’ showcasing Odisha’s vibrant textile heritage.

Looking ahead, Ms Parida is optimistic about the economic benefits of these initiatives, which she believes will create employment and foster regional development.
