Renewable Energy Minister Shri R K Singh said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha that between April 2017 and January 2020, renewable energy projects attracted investment worth INR 1.34 lakh crore. Given the global campaign against climate change, India set an ambitious target of having 175GW of clean energy by 2022 which includes 100GW of solar and 60GW of wind energy.
“Based on standard capital cost per MW, an investment of around Rs 1.34 lakh crore is estimated to have been made in the renewable energy sector during last three years i.e. 2017-18 to 2019-20 (up to January 2020),” opined the minister. He also informed the House that during 2019-20 (up to 29.2.2020), capacity of 2043 MW was added in the country when compared to 1480 MW during the previous financial year 2018-19.
