The Indian government has launched an upgraded e-Migrate portal to promote safer, transparent labour mobility for overseas workers. The platform offers multilingual support, secure digital services, and expanded rural access through Common Service Centres (CSCs). External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya launched the upgraded e-Migrate portal and mobile app to enhance transparency, safety, and inclusiveness for Indian workers abroad. Jaishankar highlighted that the platform reflects the government’s commitment to safeguarding workers’ welfare overseas. He also recalled Prime Minister Modi’s release of a postal stamp promoting safe migration with the message, “Surakshit Jaayen, Prashikshit Jaayen” (Go Safe, Go Well-Trained). “Today’s event captures that sentiment,” Jaishankar added, emphasizing the Modi government’s focus on improving ease of living and people-centric governance.
Aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 10, the upgraded portal offers 24/7 multilingual support and a feedback mechanism to address issues, especially in the Gulf region. “We must also acknowledge the vulnerabilities they face in foreign lands,” Jaishankar stressed, reaffirming the government’s responsibility to protect migrant workers.
Jaishankar noted that India has actively negotiated mobility agreements with other countries since 2015 to meet the rising demand for skilled workers. The platform integrates with Digilocker for secure, paperless submissions and partners with Common Service Centres (CSCs) to extend immigration services to rural areas in local languages. “This is very much measured towards people-centric and ease of living goals,” he said.
The enhanced e-Migrate platform also serves as a one-stop marketplace for genuine overseas job opportunities. “The creation of a one-stop authentic marketplace for searching job opportunities abroad is essential in today’s digital world,” Jaishankar stated. New collaborations with the State Bank of India enable zero-fee digital payments and broaden social security coverage for migrant workers through insurance. “Our missions, particularly in the Gulf, have dedicated labour attaches to address grievances and ensure the well-being of our migrant workers,” he concluded.
