India is stepping up its economic engagement with Europe as Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal begins a five-day visit to Spain, Belgium, and Finland from July 13 to 17. The visit is aimed at expanding bilateral trade, attracting fresh investments, and strengthening partnerships in emerging sectors such as advanced manufacturing, clean energy, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and digital technologies.
According to the Commerce Ministry, the minister will be accompanied by a high-level Indian business delegation representing industries including advanced manufacturing, healthcare, food processing, gems and jewellery, clean energy, digital technologies, and design. The visit is expected to provide Indian businesses with new opportunities to collaborate with European companies and explore long-term investments.
The first leg of the tour will take Goyal to Spain on July 13, where he will participate in an India-Spain Business Roundtable. The event will bring together leading business executives from both countries to discuss collaboration in automotive manufacturing, renewable energy, railways, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, food processing, and tourism. Several Spanish companies, including Iberdrola, Acciona, CAF, Talgo, Gestamp, and Indra, already have a significant presence in India. At the same time, Indian companies such as TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Tech Mahindra, and L&T continue to expand their operations in Spain.
During his visit to Belgium on July 14 and 15, Goyal is scheduled to hold CEO-level meetings with senior executives of Thales Group and Silox Group. Thales has established partnerships in India across aerospace, defence, cybersecurity, and digital identity, while Silox has major operations in Gujarat and works on speciality chemicals, battery recycling, and sustainable manufacturing.
The Belgium visit will also include participation in the India-EU Business Roundtable and the Trade and Technology Council (TTC) plenary. Discussions are expected to focus on improving foreign direct investment, easing trade, promoting sustainable technologies, and building resilient global supply chains.
The final leg of the visit will take the minister to Finland on July 16 and 17. He will attend the India-Finland Business Roundtable and meet leading Finnish companies working in digitalisation, clean energy, advanced manufacturing, and the circular economy.
The multi-country visit reflects India’s continued efforts to deepen economic ties with Europe, diversify trade partnerships, and encourage collaboration in high-growth sectors that are expected to shape future economic development.
