Samsung has introduced the new 990 SSD in India with PCIe 4.0 support, faster performance and up to 38% better power efficiency. The SSD will be available in 1TB and 2TB variants from the last week of July 2026.

Samsung India has announced the launch of its new Samsung 990 SSD, expanding its consumer storage portfolio with a high-performance PCIe 4.0 NVMe solid-state drive. The new SSD is aimed at gamers, content creators, professionals and everyday PC users seeking faster storage performance and improved power efficiency.
The Samsung 990 SSD will be available in 1TB and 2TB capacities. The 2TB model offers sequential read speeds of up to 7,250 MB/s, while the 1TB variant delivers up to 7,150 MB/s. Both models support sequential write speeds of up to 6,450 MB/s, enabling faster file transfers, quicker boot times and reduced application loading times.
For random performance, the 2TB model delivers up to 850,000 read IOPS and 1.2 million write IOPS, while the 1TB version offers up to 700,000 read IOPS and 1.1 million write IOPS. These specifications are designed to improve responsiveness during gaming, multitasking and demanding creative workloads.
Samsung says the new 990 SSD is also more energy efficient than its predecessor. Compared to the Samsung 990 PRO, the drive delivers up to 38% better power efficiency, allowing users to achieve strong performance while consuming less power.
The 2TB version provides ample storage for modern applications and games. According to Samsung, it can store up to 30 AAA games based on an average game size of around 64GB, making it suitable for users with large digital libraries.
The SSD is bundled with Samsung Magician Software, which helps users monitor drive health, migrate data, optimize performance and manage firmware updates for long-term reliability.
The Samsung 990 SSD features an M.2 (2280) form factor, PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe 2.0 interface, Samsung V-NAND memory and the company’s in-house controller. It supports AES 256-bit encryption, TCG/Opal V2.0 and IEEE1667 security standards. The 1TB model comes with a 400TB Total Bytes Written (TBW) rating, while the 2TB model offers 800TB TBW. Both variants are backed by a three-year limited warranty.
The Samsung 990 SSD will be available in India from the last week of July 2026. The 1TB model is priced at ₹25,649, while the 2TB variant carries an MRP of ₹50,349.
