State Bank of India (SBI) customers should take note of a scheduled disruption in the bank’s UPI services on September 4. India’s largest public-sector bank has informed customers that its UPI services will remain temporarily unavailable for around 45 minutes due to planned maintenance.
According to the bank, the maintenance activity is scheduled between 12:15 AM and 1:00 AM on September 4, 2026. During this period, customers could face difficulties while making payments or transferring money through SBI-linked UPI services. SBI has also indicated that the services could be restored before 1:00 AM if the maintenance work is completed earlier.
Customers who need to make urgent payments during the maintenance window should consider keeping another payment option ready. This could be particularly useful for online purchases, bill payments or money transfers scheduled around midnight.
SBI informed customers about the temporary disruption through a post on social media and expressed regret for the inconvenience caused by the scheduled maintenance.
UPI Lite to Remain Available
While regular SBI UPI services will be affected, customers will still be able to use UPI Lite for eligible small-value transactions during the maintenance window. This provides customers with an alternative for making smaller everyday payments when the regular UPI service is temporarily unavailable.
UPI Lite allows users to make eligible transactions of up to ₹1,000 without entering a UPI PIN, while the wallet can hold a balance of up to ₹5,000, according to the report.
SBI customers who expect to make important transactions around the scheduled maintenance period should therefore either complete them before 12:15 AM or keep an alternative payment method ready.
