Ethnic Rice Opens Global Markets
New Delhi, September 4, 2026: A consignment of 18 metric tonnes of NPOP-certified ethnic rice from Tripura has been flagged off for export to Austria and the Netherlands.
The export includes four traditional varieties from the state: Aromatic Kali Khasa Rice, Aromatic Harinarayan Rice, Biron white sticky rice and Maimi Hanga Black Rice.
The rice was aggregated from Farmer Producer Companies supported by the Tripura State Organic Farming Development Agency.
The initiative was facilitated by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority, while the consignment is being exported by Pratithi Organic Foods.
The export is expected to create new international market opportunities for farmers and local producer organisations.
According to the initiative, participating farmers could receive up to 40 per cent higher price realisation compared with domestic markets.
The development follows a Reverse Buyer-Seller Meet organised by APEDA in Tripura, which helped connect international buyers with local producers.
The export highlights growing opportunities for India’s North Eastern region in certified organic agriculture and international food markets.
