India’s electric vehicle market reached a historic milestone in July as retail sales touched an all-time monthly high of 3,27,901 units, according to the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA). The achievement represents a 66 per cent year-on-year increase and highlights the rapid adoption of electric mobility across the country.
The latest sales figure surpassed the previous monthly record of 3,06,220 EVs registered in June. With this performance, nearly one out of every eight vehicles sold in India during July was electric, reflecting the growing acceptance of EVs among consumers and businesses alike.
Electric two-wheelers continued to dominate the market, with retail sales climbing to 2,04,362 units, an increase of 88.3 per cent over the same month last year. Passenger electric vehicles also posted strong growth, rising 83.1 per cent to 32,928 units despite supply constraints affecting several high-demand models.
The electric three-wheeler segment maintained its strong momentum, recording 87,055 retail sales, while electric commercial vehicles emerged as the fastest-growing category. Commercial EV sales surged 168.6 per cent year-on-year, indicating that fleet operators are increasingly adopting electric mobility solutions.
FADA Vice President Sai Giridhar said July marked India’s highest-ever monthly EV retail performance, with electric vehicles becoming a mainstream choice across multiple segments. He urged manufacturers to address supply shortages before the festive season, adding that the country’s EV transition has moved beyond projections and is now becoming a reality across showrooms nationwide.
